Edinburgh (Scotland)
My story

I was born and raised around Edinburgh and lived here for 26 years of my life. I know every corner of the city, all of the hidden gems and where the locals go. I love Edinburgh, it looks like a fairytale, there is a castle overlooking the city centre, as well as a dormant volcano, and all of the adorable alleyways with the cobblestones and beautiful architecture, look like they're straight out of a Harry Potter movie. It's a lively, bustling, beautiful city that everyone should have a chance to see.

What do I do here?

I am a freelance ESL teacher. The only other place that I have lived was Hamburg (Germany), I enjoyed it and it has its own charm and uniqueness about it, but after a year of living in Hamburg, I found myself back in Edinburgh. It draws you back in like a spell. It took leaving my own city to realise that I'm in love with my own city.

What's the best of my city?

I think that the views are breath-taking. The view over the city from the top of Calton Hill, or the view of Dean Village with it's gorgeous cottages, cobblestone pathways and the stream flowing through. Edinburgh is also the comedy capital of the world, and it's well worth visiting one particular comedy club where a lot of the famous comedians in the UK got their start. A traveller in Scotland should also try eating haggis. We have it in many different forms in Edinburgh, to suit all tastes and budgets, so whether you want it deep fried in batter from the "chippy", as part of a full Scottish breakfast, on a pizza or in a panini, or in the traditional meal of haggis, neeps and tatties in a whisky sauce, it's well worth trying.

My tours secret sauce

I know some hidden gems in Edinburgh that other people don't. Want to see a donation based creative space for musicians and artists / cafe? I know exactly the place. Want a speakeasy disguised as a barber shop? Yupp, great, I know where. Want to run into the harbour dressed in costume with a whole bunch of other amazing costumed people on New Years Day? Want to go to a Pagan fire festival? Want to attend a traditional local "gala day"? They're all events with specific dates, but I know where and when. And I'll know all of the most exciting things that are happening on the dates that you will be here too, just ask!
